Corporate Express US Opens New Facility in Southfield, MI
Demonstrates Corporate Express' Commitment to Technology, Productivity & the Environment

Broomfield, Colorado – May 29, 2007Corporate Express US Inc., part of the Dutch-based Corporate Express NV, announced today the opening of its new state-of-the-art facility in Southfield, Michigan. This facility offers customers an expanded product selection, advanced distribution technology and onsite presence of five Corporate Express lines of business, including Office Products, Document & Print Management, Furniture, Facilities/Janitorial Supplies and ASAP Software.

Corporate Express US Inc. is a leading business-to-business supplier in the U.S. of office products, furniture, facility supplies and computer products and services, printing and forms management, and promotional merchandise, with 2006 sales of approximately $3.6 billion in the U.S.

Corporate Express' new 116,315 square foot facility offers a fully computerized material handling system with "Pick to Voice" and "Pick to Cart" technology. To increase efficiency, this facility will practice a new approach where product is removed from boxes and placed in bins making the product picker ready. With 23 shipping and receiving doors, this facility will provide products and services to Michigan and Northwest Ohio with greater effectiveness and dependability.

In addition to distribution technology and efficient delivery operations, the Southfield facility reinforces Corporate Express' commitment to the environment by meeting the company standard specifications for new buildings. Some key highlights of the new facility include:

  • LEED-certified Recycled Content Carpet Tiles
  • Programmable digital thermostats with night, weekend and holiday set-back modes to decrease energy consumption
  • Insulated warehouse roofing to minimize heat gain in summer months while retaining heat during the winter
  • Restrooms with automatic faucets, toilets and hand towel dispensers that cut paper use by 30%. Waterless urinals that decrease water consumption by 40,000 gallons per urinal, per year
  • Motion sensors for all interior lighting in conference rooms, restrooms and other frequently unoccupied spaces, and photo cell circuits on all exterior lighting to ensure lighting is not used during daylight hours
